The Kruer lab studies crucial cellular neuroprotective mechanisms that lead to childhood neurological disorders when they fail. We utilize a diverse array of techniques, including next-generation sequencing of human patients, bioinformatics, yeast genetic screens, in vitro assays, microscopy, and model organisms to understand the molecular basis of neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders. Students in this lab have the opportunity to study the neurobiology of disease in a dynamic interdisciplinary setting and delve into basic mechanisms relevant to human health.
